About Singer Jah:

Born on August 1, 1982, in Montpelier, St. James, to parents Jennifer Taylor and Valentine Fraser, Marconie “Singer Jah” Fraser, later relocated to May Pen Clarendon at the age of 15, where he began his lifelong dream to become an entertainer. Despite attending High School, where he successfully completed 5th form and came out successful with 4 subjects at the CXC level, Singer Jah’s first passion was always music.

Growing up as the younger of two children, Singer Jah was not to be the only musical prodigy of the struggling, single mother run household. Of course, growing up alongside older brother and Reggae Icon Ginjah was not a deterrent, if anything it ignited and further fueled this passion.

Listening to his brother singing and deejaying around the house as they went about their daily chores, Singer Jah often tried to emulate his sound, and most say this sibling bonding served as his main inspiration to try and take this passion to the next level.

After being encouraged by friends and family to take his passion more seriously, Singer Jah entered the 2006 Rising Stars Contest. Despite being unsuccessful, the announcement of another Talent Contest on the scene could not come soon enough. Singer Jah never hesitated and jumped at the opportunity to audition for the 2008 Magnum King and Queen of the Dancehall Competition.

From his very first audition, and throughout the competition, Singer Jah became famous for his powerful “Waasskaa, Waasskaa” chant, which not only shook the minds of male fans, but the hearts of his growing female fan base. With his raspy voice, inviting smile, his humble demeanor, and smooth, rhythmic melodies, Singer Jah captured the audience of Jamaicans home and abroad that tuned in to view the show on 10 consecutive Saturdays. On the final night, April 19, 2008, Jamaica spoke, and Singer Jah was crowned the first “Magnum King of the Dancehall”.

Since that night, Singer Jah has not looked back. With an album recorded with producer Skatta Burrell under his belt, and several performances over the past year, including: Beenie Man’s Summer Sizzle, Stone Love 36th Anniversary Show, General Degree’s Manchester Fiesta, Biker’s Fest in Montego Bay and Crystal Spring Family Fun Day & Stage Show in Portland. BERES HAMMOND, CULTURE, TARRUS RILEY, AND DUANE STEPHENSON CELEBRATE JAMAICA'S 47TH ANNIVERSARY AT THE RITZ THEATRE IN NEW JERSEY ON AUGUST 2ND

New York, NY (Ms. RAINE INC.) -- New Jersey's landmark Ritz Theatre is once again paying homage to the drum and bass sounds of the islands with the 2nd annual installment of Reggae at the Ritz. This year's staging welcomes Reggae legends Beres Hammond and Culture, along with acclaimed Roots Reggae singers Tarrus Riley and Duane Stephenson to fete Jamaica's 47th year of Independence.

Hosted by Icon World Entertainment and RoadBlockRadio.com, this year's Reggae at the Ritz event will be held at the prestigious Ritz Theatre in Elizabeth, NJ on Sunday, August 2nd. Jamaica's Independence Day is August 6th.

Reggae, a combination of traditional African and Caribbean music with elements of American Rhythm & Blues and Soul, developed in Jamaica soon after its Independence in 1962. From late 1960's through the early 1970's the bass-heavy sound of Reggae gained the attention of overseas musicians through the music of early pioneers like Bunny Lee, Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Toots and the Maytals, Bob Marley and the Wailers, and Jimmy Cliff. American musician Johnny Nash is credited with first putting Reggae on the American charts with his 1968 hit "Hold Me Tight." Later that same year, the Beatles brought worldwide attention to new sound with the Reggae-tinged Rock & Roll song "Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da." Eric Clapton's 1974 cover of Bob Marley's "I Shot the Sheriff" propelled Reggae into the mix of mainstream pop-culture music. The next year, Bob Marley and the Wailers had their first international breakthrough with "No Woman No Cry," and their 1976 album Rastaman Vibration spent four weeks on the Top Ten charts in the U.S. The following year Culture released their seminal album Two Sevens Clash which, to this day, is hailed by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the '50 Coolest Records' ever made.

In celebration of Jamaica's 47th anniversary, this year's Reggae at the Ritz pays tribute to Jamaica's musical legacy with two of the island's groundbreaking international Reggae icons, Beres Hammond -- whose 37 year career includes well over 20 albums including the Grammy nominated Music is Life -- and Culture. Reggae at the Ritz also features two of Jamaica's fastest rising Reggae talents, Tarrus Riley, who burst on the scene in 2006 with the critically acclaimed album Parables featuring the smash hit "She's Royal," and singer/songwriter Duane Stephenson best known for his single "August Town" as well as for co-writing the anthem "True Reflections" for Reggae artist Jah Cure.

The Rootz Underground revolution emerged on the scene in a blaze of high-energy performances and conscious lyrics.

Individually, each had embarked on a road of truth, seeking musical and spiritual harmony, and when their paths inevitably forged to form Rootz, they got together to offer up a striking and refreshing mix of conscious lyrics, and a harmonic alternative reggae sound that marries their intellectual, spiritual and creative energies. This marriage has birthed music that is inspiring, energizing and real, progressive, unique, and with edge their reggae has a modern hip hop feel infused with slivers of jazz, rock and revolutionary dub. Collectively their union affirms an aim of bringing a JAH-inspired message to the masses. ANOTHER WORLD IS POSSIBLE

"Un'altro Mondo È Possible" - "another world is possible" was the motto at Rototom Sunsplash 2009 and once again, festival-goers, organizers and staff proved that it is indeed. Regardless of ethnicity, colour, or creed people can live together respectfully, in harmony, peace, tolerance, love and unity.

Having participated at last year's festival, I can happily attest to the harmonious atmosphere experienced - nothing but positivity and love present in the park. Every year people come from all over Europe and beyond, to see, hear and learn more about Reggae, Jamaica and its culture, as well as its influence on the music and culture of people around the world. This is indeed a peaceful gathering.

Although unable to attend the 16th annual European Reggae Festival this year, I was able to participate virtually. Broadcast live over radio, television and live-streaming online, the festival's reggae-loving audience has expanded far beyond the borders of the Parco del Rivellino at the base of the Alps.

Naturally, as a virtual participant, the energy and vibrations that one feels amongst the throngs of people in the park were sorely missing, but some of the performances were so powerfully brilliant that the vibrations were indeed carried through the ether and felt here in Toronto. On night six, the energy of Michael Franti and Spearhead on the main stage vibrated at such a high frequency that I danced, sang, and cheered, sharing love with them and the several thousands of joyous fans who did the same under a torrential downpour. At the close of the show, I was moved to tears as I watched a most gracious, loving Franti step down off the stage to walk out amongst his drenched and devoted fans to thank them personally, embracing everyone he encountered as the rain continued unabated. This was an extraordinary and magnificent moment.

I was also fortunate enough to participate in a history making moment when Bunny Wailer, took centre stage for the first time, in Italy. The only living, original Wailer had for years declined invitations to perform in Italy because of its history of injustices in Ethiopia. Finally, he explained on stage, he changed his mind when he recognized that Italians and Ethiopians are now creating families together. He knew this was his time and Rototom the place. The audience remained enthralled as Bunny took us through the "history of reggae" including his classic Blackheart Man. Bunny Wailer, in his reconciliation with Italy, also announced that he would donate a portion of his fees to the victims of the recent earthquake in the Abruzzo region and the balance to organizations in Shashamane Ethiopia.

Other concert highlights included Junior Kelly, Steel Pulse, Alborosie, Lynton Kwesi Johnson, and Horace Andy among a whole slew of other stellar performers.

From this side of the Atlantic I was also able to enjoy Sunsplash TV between main stage acts. Sunsplash TV featured informative and entertaining interviews with performers, guests, organizers, and key personnel working to make this festival such a huge success. This year the broadcast also featured London Town, a documentary by reggae historian, radio and Sunsplash TV host, Pier Tosi. Performances and debates can still be seen from the Rototom website or on arcoiris.tv

On the down side and much to the dismay of festival-goers, Rototom president, Filippo Giunta announced, during the closing ceremonies, that as a result of police harassment tactics, next year's location and dates remain undetermined. Over the course of the ten days, police and other inspectors conducted searches of merchants' stalls, people's tents and personal belongings for "no real reason connected to emergencies or public order". Clearly, when masses of people come together in peace, love and unity, Babylon is threatened and unleashes the dogs of hell. How appropriate therefore that Anthony B closed this year's Rototom Festival with a fiery performance.

Mr. Giunta went on to advise the audience that despite resistance, the festival will endure and will continue to grow in strength and numbers even if it must be relocated to another country. For the English version of Mr. Giunta's speech visit rototom.com

When I think of VP/Atlantic recording artist Sean Paul, I think "sexy", "great entertainer", "sexy", "suave", "sexy", "great stage presence" and did I mention "sexy" - yeah I think I did a bunch of times. Well it is that sex appeal that has won the hearts of women all over the globe. And after a 4 year hiatus, Mr. sexy himself is back with a new album and hits that's sure to have the ladies dancing.

Imperial Blaze, the new album, is slated for release August 18, 2009. With the first single "So Fine" already dominating the airwaves, SP is ready to take the world by storm with his second single playfully titled "Press It Up."

In typical Sean Paul style, the DJ was at the Sputnik Lounge in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn on Thursday, July 16, 2009 to shoot the video for "Press It Up". On hand to direct the video was renowned choreographer turned director Tanisha Scott with the assistance of Tim Naylor and Nadia Sampson. Scott who has choreographed several of SP's music videos including "Gimme Di Light" and "We Be Burnin" has worked with artists such as Beenie Man, Ne-Yo, Ciara, Ludacris, Shaggy and Tami Chynn, to name a few.

I want to be careful not to give too much away, but let's just say the video is outfitted with sexy ladies in sexy outfits, brother Jason, rump and hip shaking dance moves and SP - well let's just say - SP looked sexy in every scene.

The producers of Digicel Rising Stars went back to the drawing board and have redesigned The Chill Room to the delight of many Digicel Rising Stars fans.

Monday July 20; Kingston, Jamaica: No longer known as the Sony Ericsson Chill Room, Kiki’s redesigned set now has two top notch sponsors in Pepsi and KFC. These new endorsements are in unison with the new style and flavour of The Chill Room. The redesigned Chill Room has the ambiance of an American 50’s diner and like a 50’s diner, instead of sitting in a chair, Kiki is now in a cosy booth with her guests. The more intimate setting will go a far way in making the young Digicel Rising Stars even more comfortable on national TV.

In 2008 The Chill Room played host to some of Jamaica’s top entertainers including Marcia Griffiths, Lady Saw, Tanya Stephens Tessanne Chin Elephant Man. This year the plans are no different; with a slew of top flight entertainers and industry players slated to appear on the new set.

The late night dancehall, “Club Umoja” will be going off into the early morning hours with Selections from Nowtime Sound, Jah Yzer, Daneekah, Green B, Beatnok, Lucazade, Mr. Lucky and Stepwise. Appearing on the dancehall stage will be performances from Norrisman, Million Stylez, Messenjah Selah, and Paapa Wastick, and more to be announced.

There are few things to remember about the festival if you don’t already know by now. There are no dogs, weapons, drugs, or video recording equipment allowed inside the gates. Camping is still available at this time at Cooks Valley with tent camping in the shady redwoods, or in the sun on the riverbank. A few Cooks Valley RV sites might still be available if you’re on it quick.

This is surely an event not to miss if you are anywhere near the Pacific Coast region. Many fans travel near and far to attend one of these legendary weekend festivals on the peaceful Eel River. Big Up Radio will be there, representing as usual and bringing the love from Oaktown! Let oneness be the vibe for the weekend.

Feeling trapped and isolated is a way of life in Western North Carolina. Its small towns foster unique coming-of-age experiences for adolescents growing up there, and Jacob Darden is no exception. Darden was born in the small, Appalachian town of Drexel and spent the first 20 years of his life in the former milltown that has become the main influence of the songs he writes for his band, Israel Darling.

Darden began playing music at a young age, and it became his escape. His father often played blues and Appalachian folk records in the house and Darden felt an immediate connection. Darden’s father had a part-time job as a guitar-maker, and would bring the young boy to meet his musician friends. These local bluesmen would eventually make major impact on Darden’s songwriting. “Hanging out with the older musicians in Drexel really influenced me,” says Darden. “It was so great to just hang out in the same room with people that I’ll probably never even be able to play as well as.”

Like the majority of his community, Darden grew up a devout Baptist. He made a point to go to church even when his family stopped, driving himself there every Sunday. Until two years ago, that is. A downward spiral of events left Darden in the hospital at the age of 19. “I started hanging out with the wrong crowds and making bad choices,” Darden says. When he emerged from the hospital, Darden’s beliefs had changed and he proclaimed himself an atheist. With a new set of ideals, he immersed himself in his music. “I don’t think there’s anything after this so I’ve been trying to do better for myself, living for now and making the most of today.”

Darden’s religious past also played a part in the naming of the band. At the ripe age of 15, Darden was playing at an open-mic in the nearby town of Morganton, NC. “A cougar came up to hit on me and asked my name,” Darden recalls. “When I told her, she misheard last name as Darling.” This older woman wasn’t the first to make that mistake and Darden pondered calling himself Jacob Darling. Once he became an atheist, he began to think about the Biblical tale of Jacob, who was re-named Israel by an angel after a great deal of struggling. Darden identified with this tale of inner turmoil and decided to call the band Israel Darling.

Darden’s beliefs are strongly expressed in his songwriting. Despite Biblical references in his songs, Darden approaches religion with irony and bitterness. In the song “Samson the Mason” Darden muses, “led myself to believe, that God’s nothing more than a three letter word, something that can't be touch nor heard.”

Beyond the apparent atheist tones, Darden also examines the intricacies of human existence. “I write a lot about angles of everyday life, whether it be personal issues or the shit that scares you at night when you're trying to sleep,” Darden says.

Darden recorded a number of tracks along with friend Isaac Crouch, for what would become Israel Darling’s debut record, Dinosaur Bones and Mechanical Hands. Crouch stopped playing music in favor of an academic life and Jacob banded together with a group of local musicians including Mat Masterson (slide guitar), who went to high school with Jacob, and Alex Dagenhart (synth) who grew up one county over from Drexel. Masterson and Dagenhart were living in Greensboro, NC along with Arlie Huffman (drums) and Jeff Bechtel (bass). Darden followed their lead and left Drexel for the more artist-friendly Greensboro in February 2009.

The new lineup of Israel Darling signed to NYC’s Engine Room Recordings and “Dinosaur Bones and Mechanical Hands” is set for a summer 2009 release. A summer tour will ensure that Israel Darling will soon be escaping the ever encroaching hills of Western North Carolina.

The contestants are in for the ONLY Caribbean pageant in the Garner/Raleigh, NC area, the 2009 Mr. & Ms. Island Fire Pageant! There will be 8 contestants competing for the Island Fire Title. The pageant is scheduled for Saturday, July 25th at 4:30 pm at the Garner Historic Auditorium (742 West Garner Rd, Garner, NC).

Bescenta dominating with new single 'Genuine War'

Singer Bescenta continues his mission of peace-calling under hit making production house Uplifting Music International (UMI), who has been working with the artiste since 2006.

Last year, UMI signed the singer to a management contract and together they have been making and releasing excellent, chart-riding music.



"We are proud to work with Bescenta," said UMI CEO, Africa. "He is a very dedicated and focused artiste and only produces great music."



Among Bescenta's new hit singles is the big tune 'War' ('Too Much Killing'), recorded on the Sons of Spoon label and rhythm, which also features I-Wayne, Nesbeth and George Nooks, among others.



'War' is scheduled to be videoed by mid-summer and the video production label Thirteenth Tribe is said to be responsible for making it all happen. Not yet released, 'War' has been getting some good radio play.



"When yuh hear the chorus it is straight to the point, stop the killing. Killing is on a high not just in Jamaica but worldwide. We know the problem is not limited to Jamaica. You have nuclear war threat, gun manufacturing and you know the whole thing start from gun manufacturing. Some can't buy food and a buy gun. So the biggest solution really is to stay away from guns. Without people use, the mechanism gun has no use," Bescenta reasoned.



Bescenta broke into the music with 'Mama Told Me', a song that reiterated the warnings he received from his mother "to stay clear of bad company". After a few not so popular, or less promoted singles, the Rastafarian DJ found another hit in the "hot head" consoling 'Calm Down Your Nerve'. Despite the song's appeal to murderous blood-letters to "calm down their nerve" and cease the killing and preserve life, the song also hints to possible reasons for the rise of crime.



Bescenta, who has been enjoying label tag and management from UMI's CEO Africa and producer/manager Damion Allen with professionalism and some good recordings, is anticipating a summer album release of his debut album 'Calm Down Your Nerves'.



"I love working with UMI, we are on the right track, everything is alright, everything is professional," the singer said.



Already he has released equally potent singles of varying topics from the album. Some of the fifteen tracks plus bonus expected are 'Too Much Killing', 'Calm Down Your Nerves', 'Fire In A Di Heavens', 'Genuine', 'For I Hold A Joy', 'Hungry Lane', 'Alright' and 'Fields Of Green'.



Bescenta, who seemed eager to get his music to his fans, also toasted 'Genuine', a label he proudly pins on women, the subject of the song.



"'Genuine' is really a song complimenting the family, the woman and strong family values, because keeping the family together is not easy so this is like a love solution. Look out for the video for this one," the singer touts.



Regarding the album, Bescenta gives props to musicians Dean Fraser, Clive Hunt and Sly & Robbie and says, "a little bit of everything, world issues" can be expected from the album.



Next to the chart topping 'Calm Down Yuh Nerves', 'War' is currently Bescenta's biggest song and comes as a follow up to 'Calm Down Yuh Nerves', which is still reigning, getting heavy chart action on New York, South Florida and Jamaica Music Countdown charts, while CVM TV celebrated its video as number one.



"In the streets when I perform it I get a good response from the people. I did it in Grants Pen on Sunday and they loved it. Even though they say these areas are violent, the people dem a sing the song. Everybody needs to be freed from these things. Which is just one of the problems, there is a message in all the songs," Bescenta tells.



Bescenta is expected to join other artistes and an array of big bad sound systems for promotion 'Reset' with Stone Love, DJ Shawn and Rebel T.



In the meantime, Bescenta promises "good music straight with no disappointment to my fans" and "big ups to his management, DJ Shawn who hits the street with me, all selectors and disc jockeys".

About Haji Mike:

In one way or another, Haji Mike has been involved with reggae music since the late 1970's as a DJ on radio, in the dance, as a specialist scribe for various magazines and on the mic poet/MC. His first experience of radio was in 1980 when he started a roots reggae show on Radio Essex while at University. On returning to Cyprus in the mid 1990's after living in London for 30 years Haji Mike became a household name through a unique hybrid of JA dancehall riddims, Cypriot traditional melodies and London Gringlish chatting. Resulting in hosting a variety of TV and Radio shows in the local media. Simultaneously he completed a PhD in Cultural Studies leading to working an as an academic at The University of Nicosia.

OuterNational initially began as a podcast at www.soundclick.com featuring rare cassette interview sessions recorded for various magazines in the 80's and 90's with reggae legends such as Burning Spear and Cutty Ranks through a cutting edge style called 'Dub-U-Mentary'.

More recently this was transformed following a return to radio via Astra and the only radio show in Greek worldwide dedicated to reggae music. As a poet/MC Haji Mike has been releasing material since 1990. Collaborations include works with Izit, Standout Selector, Zeki Ali, Rocker T, Imiskoubria, Bandulu Dub, Jah Billah, Sonic Crime & Muttley.

Da'Ville confirmed for International Night 2 of Reggae Sumfest 2009

Fashozy international recording artiste, Da'Ville, is confirmed to perform on this year's International Night 2 at Reggae Sumfest on Saturday, July 25 at Catherine Hall, Montego Bay venue.

It will be the second time that the singer will be performing at the gigantic summer entertainment event. He performed on the event in 2007 where he gave a superb performance, which resulted in him being booked for several local and overseas shows.

The singer, whose 'Missing You Right Now' went to #1 on most local and overseas charts, is still one of the most heavily requested and played songs on the airwaves and in the dancehalls locally and internationally.

Another single, 'Never Gonna Cry', is also popping up on media charts, playlists, Internet radio stations and blog sites around the world and is fast heading for the top. It has just entered Richie B's Top 20 charts. The song is touted to be the next big hit song for the singer. A video for the song in also being edited and will be released soon.

Da'Ville is putting the final touches to a brand new album expected to be out soon. Studio engineers and persons who were privy to hear some of the tracks all say that the album is definitely going to be a “must have”.

In April, Da'Ville gave an entertaining still talked about performance at New York's top radio personality Squeeze's Rock With Squeeze Mondays Party at the SOB.

For over 25 years, Michael Rose has been recording and performing his brand of militant, hardcore Jamaican music to the delight of reggae fans around the world. As a solo artist, with Black Uhuru, and back as a solo artist, the "Ruff" Rose has achieved great success throughout his career, even as different Jamaican musical styles have phased in and out of popularity.

Perhaps the highest profile recognition came in 1984, when Michael Rose and the other Black Uhuru members (Duckie Simpson, Puma Jones, Sly Dunbar, and Robbie Shakespeare) won reggae's first Grammy award for the album, Anthem. But the story doesn't begin with Black Uhuru. In 1976, Michael Rose was already a seasoned performer, having honed his skills by performing on Jamaica's hotel circuit. When an early incarnation of Black Uhuru (Ducky Simpson and Errol Nelson) approached Michael to join the group, he already had several solo singles to his credit. A descendant of the Maroons (the fierce freedom fighters who fended off attacks from the British colonial regiments) Buju was born Mark Anthony Myrie on July 15, 1973, the youngest of 15 children born to a higgler (market vendor) mother. Buju entered Jamaica’s musical fraternity in the mid-’80s and his career accelerated into high gear with the 1991 release of his debut album for Penthouse Records Mr. Mention; propelled by the hits “Love Mi Browning” and “Bogle,” in 1992 Buju broke Bob Marley’s record for the most number one singles in one year on the Jamaican charts.

Mikey Pelpa tells 'Mama Don't Worry At All'

Singer Mikey Pelpa's conscious single 'Mama Don't Worry At All' on the Danger Zone Music Group and Untouchable Productions labels is touching the hearts of mothers around the world with its heart-rending lyrics that cut to the core of the struggles of a lot of mothers.

Pelpa sings of the plight of the struggling mothers and he captures it in the music video that was shot at various inner-cities, with scenes showing the struggles some mothers are going through to take care of their kids.

The music video, a Creative Vibes Production, was directed by Pelpa himself, with Dwayne Dwyer and Mikhail 'Tin' Williams as directors of photography.

The single 'Mama Don't Worry At All' was produced by Roderick 'Penny Bling' Hamilton and Michael 'Mikey Pelpa' Lynch, executive producer Delmar 'Della' Drummond, with instrumentals done by Equinoxx.

In 1997 and only 18 years old, Jah Cure released the culturally minded single "King In This Jungle", a duet with Sizzla and produced by Beres Hammond. About Ranking Joe :

Born Joseph Jackson in Kingston on 1st June 1959, Joe got his start on record with the founding father of Jamaican music, producer Coxsone Dodd (Studio 1), cutting "Gun Court" in 1975 as Little Joe. He then recorded for a variety of producers including Bunny Lee, Watty Burnett and former African Brother Derrick Howard. By 1976 he was deejaying on the legendary sound system of Daddy U-Roy, Stur-Gav Hi-Fi, and recording for producer Prince Tony Robinson. Kevin was first inspired by music as a 7-year-old, sitting on his mother's shoulders watching local Calypsonians competing for the title of Road March King in the yearly St. Vincent Carnival. At the same time, he cites the North American awards shows and televised performances-- Michael Jackson's moonwalk and "Billie Jean" in particular--that transfixed an entire generation of R&B and rap artists. "I've been influenced by all genres of music," says Lyttle. "I have a love for every form of art." While working a variety of day jobs, Lyttle cut his first professional record without success. Nonetheless, encouraged by his workmates, in 2001 he brought two songs to local producer Adrian Bailey, one of which was "Turn Me On." The session itself was deceptively easy. "I was done in two takes, less than an hour," says Kevin. "No one had heard me sing in this range; on St. Vincent, some people thought it was Beres Hammond doing soca. That was really flattering." About Junior Reid

To date, Jamaican-born singer Junior Reid, a devout Rastafarian regarded by many as a messenger from Jah, is best known for the hit singles ‘Foreign Mind’, ‘One Blood’, ‘Boom Shak-a-Lak’ and ‘Listen to the Voices’. He also served as the lead singer for the Grammy Award-winning Reggae group Black Uhuru.

Born on the 6th of June, Delroy "Junior" Reid grew up in the Waterhouse district of West Kingston. Junior began his career at an early age, gaining his initial inspiration from a tough upbringing. He recorded his first single ‘Know Myself’ at age fourteen for the late singer Hugh Mundell, released in the U.K. on the Greensleeves label. He then went on to form his own band, The Voice of Progress, and after a local hit with ‘Minibus Driver’ the group’s success was established with the album of the same name.

At the age of eighteen, Junior was asked to join Black Uhuru as lead singer. The group completed their transformation to international status while he was a member, nominated twice for a Grammy Award in the Reggae category.

After many changes in the music business and an agreed separation among the members of Black Uhuru, Junior returned to the solo arena and started his own production company, J.R. Productions.

On July 7 2006 Big Up Radio sat down with Dave “Ras D” Munroe to discuss his Cd “Give Some Love Today”, upcoming performances, studio projects, and his new Cd. “Love with Meaning” due out in early 2007.

When asked when he first had an interest in music Ras D replied “from birth”. That seems to be a common answer among musicians hailing from Jamaica. Music for Jamaicans is an integral part of daily life , and Ras D is no exception. Growing up in Kingston Ras D formed an early friendship with Andrew Tosh, son of the legendary founding wailer, Peter Tosh. He recalled days spent at the Tosh family home, where surely some of his first musical influences began.

While going to school together Ras D and Andrew Tosh got involved in music class, although he states he didn’t get the idea to become a singer, songwriter and musician until later.

Beginning in 1996 Ras D had linked up with Flourgon a.k.a. Michael May, along with his brother Red Dragon. Flourgon utilized Ras D's lyrical talent for material for his own music. Songs like “Too Early Shirley” on the Fat Eyes label, and “Lasco”on Sly and Robbie's Taxi label, were written By Ras D for Flourgon. The latter eventually was used in a television commercial. After “Lasco” received air play in Jamaica and oversees they met with the owner and President of Lasco( a soy based nutritional drink), Mr. Lasco himself. The end result was a television commercial featuring Ras D’s and Flourgon’s “Lasco” .

In July of 1999 Ras D left Jamaica for the United States of America, and went on tour with Andrew Tosh, Junior Reid, and Michael Rose. Touring for two months across the country, is where he realized his destiny to become a singer as well as songwriter. Ras D, decided to stay in the states after the tour concluded, and began working on songs for what would be his debut Cd “Give Some Love Today” which was released in 2004.

“The message is vital” explains Ras D. “I wanted to focus on serious topics of the times.” He certainly does with tracks like “Sept.11th”, “It’s a Dirty Habit”, and “After the Storm” with Junior Toots. and the title track “Give Some Love Today” with vocals from Regina Espinoza. The lyrics are heartical and pure wisdom. Ras D has a real talent of putting emotion to lyrics, and the listener is uplifted with songs of thanks and praise like “Hail the King”, and “Peace Call”. Righteous lyrics throughout, with other songs such as “Education”, and “The Herb” pointing out the many benefits, of the blessed colly tree.

Ras D has been hard at work finishing his second album, “Love with Meaning”, due out in early 2007. We at Big Up Radio were treated to an acapella version of the title track “Love with Meaning.” As a serious musician and vocalist Ras D is mastering his new work now, and putting the finishing touches on the last few songs to be put on the new Cd. I am blessed to be one of the few people to hear his latest works. Let me tell you, the vibes are nice. As with all of Ras D’s music, inspiration comes directly from His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Haile Selassie I. His songs include messages of truth and rights, songs of love for the woman, and for humanity world wide.

Talking about current issues we are facing to today, and giving us a call to put our faith in the almighty Jah! Junior Toots joins Ras D on “Giving a Fight”, and their blend of harmonies and vocals compliment each other well. Regina Espinoza adds her sweet, soulful voice to another track “Accusation”. The quintessential Jamaican singer / songwriter, Tanya Stephens is equally adept at blazing the latest dancehall riddims as she is at blessing an acoustic guitar-driven ballad with lyrics that are insightful, relevant, comical, and often scathing…...life and love observed with the honest eyes of a child, yet processed and returned to her audience with uncommon maturity and melody. On “Rebelution,” Tanya Stephens once again displays her wit and musical sensibilities

Tanya has scored international hits in the past with the classics “Goggle” and “You Nuh Ready Yet,”….songs still guaranteed to move the crowd in any setting. Her last album “Gangsta Blues” yielded the one-drop anthem “It’s A Pity,” on the Doctors Darling riddim (a remix of Gregory Isaac’s smash Night Nurse). Power of Words California Tour

San Francisco, CA - The music scene in America has forgotten one of the most important factors of creative expression. The words, or lyrics, which have been so important to past generations, have given way to simple "party" lyrics and "sing along" hooks, whose basic message hopes to reach only the least common denominator of today's listening and music buying audience. Gone are the days when people sang to communicate social and political awareness, while the real "truthspeakers" are snuffed out or ignored until they loose the will to create. Music as we know it has always been a sort of "newspaper" which gives the listener insight on current events and the news of our times. Somewhere along these lines the message got lost.

With this, "The Power of Words" concept in mind, Independent Distribution Collective (IDC) an artist friendly CD distribution company, decided to develop a small tour which would not only feature artists with a message, but artists who would make that message the main focal point of their live performances. IDC chose two artists from their vast catalog who put the lyrics at the forefront of their live performances. One artist, Haji Mike, is a Cypriot Poet, MC and Ph.D. who spent many years in England, where he was exposed to both reggae music and spoken word poetry. His tireless efforts to help heal a decades long division in his homeland of Cyprus, and his constant support of the youth culture there makes it easy to see why he was chosen for this tour. The other artist, Karney, is a San Francisco born Singer/Songwriter who has toured all of the US, and performed and written songs alongside countless different and diverse musical icons. Always a socially conscious person, and supporter of many forms of creative art, Karney's biting wit and political lyrics are always present in any of her live shows. This tour will also feature some amazing local acts in each of these cities.

It is important for this tour to reach audiences who are looking for a message in today's music. With that in mind IDC focused on a few markets in Northern California, which have always been home to social change in America. San Francisco, Santa Cruz, and Chico, California seem perfect places for these shows. Katchafire Gets Usa Distribution Deal And Tour Dates For Hawaii And UK

Katchafire, Aotearoa's top reggae band, have gained an American distribution deal with 2b1 Multimedia in San Francisco. 2b1 is a specialist label with a strong live reggae catalogue of international acts. The owner, Boots Hughston, is a music industry legend around San Francisco, having been a session player to the stars, major live venue owner and a supplier of music production services, as well as being one of the visionary few who created the venue site that has become REGGAE ON THE RIVER, the premiere live reggae event in the US for over 20 years!

2b1 is, in turn, distributed throughout the USA by the highly-rated Sony/BMG-owned Red Distribution. The latter's most recent success being breakthrough reggae act Matisyahu.

After a year on the small screen as a judge on the most popular television programme in Jamaica, Nadine Sutherland is set to make BIG waves this summer with a string of new singles, tour dates, and the release of her long awaited album.

Nadine turned quite a few heads during her recent video shoot for her new single entitled “Keep Me Safe” (Eight76 Records). A mixture of tourists, community residents, and passers-by to the downtown Kingston area stopped in their tracks at the sight of Nadine Sutherland in her element. Nadine is known for her dynamic energy and presence before an audience, and director Nordia Rose wisely used the busy locale as a backdrop for the songstress. The appreciative and enthusiastic crowd let Nadine know how much she’s been missed and that her fans are hungry for more. From the popular "Sleng Teng Resurrection" revived by Bounty Killa and its original vocalist Wayne Smith and the "World A Reggae" by Ini Kamoze and The Taxi recreated through Damian Marley’s hit "Welcome to Jamrock;" from the restoration of the Admiral Bailey’s "Punany" performed by Shabba Ranks in “Caan Dun” to the remake of “Father Jungle Rock” in “Can’t Satisfy Her” by I-Wayne, the powerful reverberations of King Jammy’s pivotal electronic riddims which ushered in the digital reggae movement are still felt all over the charts. Twenty years after these riddims were built, new generations of aspiring soundmen are still cutting dubs on these versions, still killing sounds in clashes from New York to Brixton, from Germany to Japan, forever dipping into King Jammy’s reggae repertoire.

On July 18, VP Records will release a companion CD and DVD of King Jammy’s King At The Controls, King Jammy’s Essential Hits {from reggae’s} Digital Revolution 1985-1989, a tasty and important slice of the King’s indelible stamp on reggae music. It all began with “Sleng Teng” in 1985. With Jammy working his magic at the boards and Wayne Smith eking the tune out on a cheap Casio battery-powered keyboard, the simple hypnotic track came to life and changed reggae forever. At its debut at a big clash between King Jammy’s and Black Scorpio, Canadian journalist Beth Lesser was there and wrote in her classic book King Jammy’s, “[Jammy’s selector] Tupps opened right away with ‘Sleng Teng’ and the crowd went wild!...The bass sound coming out of those boxes was like nothing that had ever been heard before. It was absolutely clean – powerful and pounding. It just stopped your heart.” “Sleng Teng” paved the way for much change. Computer riddims suddenly controlled the dance floor and live instruments fell out of favor. Independent producers began to flourish because all that was needed were Casio and Yamaha keyboards and an Oberheim drum machine. Steely and Clevie gravitated to Jammy’s, bringing a new level of musicianship to the game and Bobby “Digital” Dixon took over mixing duties. A new dream team emerged, taking reggae into the present.

The tracks on King At The Controls offer a solid sense of Jammy’s innovative sound and production during that era and showcases the young, unique talents Jammy nurtured. The tracks were chosen by Jammy and NYC-Jamaica main man, Johnny Wonder who, since the 80’s as a part of Jammy’s studio crew, was instrumental in bringing the hottest sounds emanating out of Jamaica to the NYC club scene, helping to break many an artist here. From “Music Lover,” featuring Shabba Ranks as a hungry young rising star to “I Love King Selassie,” featuring Black Uhuru in their early days, one of dancehall’s greatest DJ’s during his formative years; from Junior Reid singing “Boom Shack” as a young, local Watertown youth to Dennis Brown’s “The Exit,” highlighting the Crown Prince of Reggae foray into the digital age via the King, King At The Controls pays respect to King Jammy’s legacy and the depth of one man’s commitment to reggae music.

The companion DVD is set in King Jammy’s own Waterhouse community and gives a glimpse of the environment the music emerged from and the man behind the boards.

Roots Empress Dezarie set to light up the Bay Area July 27-29

Roots empress Dezarie blessed the reggae community with the deliverance of her second album, "Gracious Mama Africa,” in 2005 and is now set to release her latest cd “Set the Flame” this July in conjunction with her summer tour. Expect a fire to erupt from within this young St Croix woman when she takes the stage!

As the Number 1 selling Female Reggae Artist in America (FYA & Gracious Mama), Dezarie is a singer of unrivaled abilities. Her mesmerizing soothing vocals counteract with sharp, caustic and forceful chants to create a sound that resonates on all wavelengths. The strength of her convictions and her sense of purpose manifests itself in deep and powerful lyrics. Her singing voice feels like a combination of Erykah Badu's smoky coolness, Lauryn Hill's strength and insightfulness, and Dido's elfin airiness. Frankly, her lyrics prove as thoughtful and provocative as any male singer out there, at times reminiscent of Midnite’s own master wordsmith Vaughn Benjamin.

After receiving Atlanta's "Best New Female Reggae Artist" award in 2001, Dezarie returned to her native island of St. Croix. Since that time, she has been working closely with Midnite, the players of instruments on her two latest albums and backing her on her tours. On the last tour Dezarie teased the crowd with a song or two from her forthcoming album including “Set the Flame” which really moved the crowds! Set to a baseline that resembles "Judgment Come", Dezarie calls on the audience to put up their lighters and "Bun down injustice, oppression, hatred and segregation" before ripping into the song lyrics:

"Moral corruption with vice in all form. Erase true morals of the young ones. Mis-education, brainwashing. White as snow Clorox to the mind. Unemployed and hunger. It's a game being played on the chessboard that all those in power created. Food shortages and financial panics. Organized crime war tactics.... Disgust is too nice of a word to describe how I feel about them. So set the flame. Set the flame. Set the flame."

Make no mistake about it Dezarie has arrived. Standing firm with fiery lyrics, an incredible voice and impassioned beliefs Dezarie is sure to ‘Set The Flame’ throughout the Four Corners of the earth for years to come.

Ikahba is the latest artist to emanate from the roots caldron currently bubbling on the island of St. Croix. His debut album 'Troddin To Zion" was released in January of this on the Afrikan Roots Lab record label. Like all ARL releases, "Troddin" features the preeminent roots band, Midnite, laying down some wicked bass lines and rhythms. Add a heavy dose of conscious lyrics along with Ron Benjamin's unique engineering skills and you've got the recipe for another cruzial album.

What distinguishes Ikahba is his ability to intersperse his cool soothing vocals (that many people find similar to Tenor Saw) with some chanting in which Ikahba throws down lyrics fierce and hard. This is perhaps best illustrated on the song "Wha Happen To Dem".

After crooning for about a minute over the "Maintain" riddim, Ika rips into some serious chanting:

"What an abomination now dem come ya so fe bring, de youths and dem borning mutated, a pure vampire warmonger is what dem come ya breeding."

Fellow Afrikan Roots Lab recording artist Mash joins Ikahba on the selection "Dem Skylarkin", with Dezarie sharing vocals on the title track. The outstanding harmonies and subtle background vocals give the entire album an 'easy-listening' roots feel to it, yet the lyrics are piercing and spellbinding.

Luna Angel brings her celestial birth name to bear on Move with Me, her debut album of personal, spiritual and political songs that reflect the talent and insight of an old soul on young shoulders. Luna writes irresistible pop melodies and soulful reggae rhythms, and her cool enchanting vocal summons up other modern pop chanteuses like Sade, Erikah and Alicia.

Born to a longtime musical family - a Jamaican mother and a French father in Marin County, California – Luna’s uncle is Junior Marvin who is the lead guitarist for the legendary Bob Marley’s Wailers band. She worked with her first group, the I-Rise Band and later attended the Jazz School in Berkeley. Backed by her own five-piece band, Luna was soon opening for major reggae artists including not only the Wailers, but also Toots and the Maytals, Third World, Buju Banton and Michael Franti to name a few. Every song on Move with Me has been written, co-produced, and arranged by Luna. Containing elements of reggae, R&B, jazz and a spice of dancehall; and some tunes that were composed in her teens. “Many of the songs are very old,” she says, “but when it was time to record them, we tried to put a new flavor on them. It’s like they’re old, but they’re completely new interpretations.” Talking about the songs on her debut album, Luna is confident and deliberate. With the title track “Move with Me” for example, “I just took my guitar and started strumming,” she recalls. “For me to write a song,” Luna confides, “I usually have to find a nice chord progression and, once I find it, it just starts spilling out.”

Biography: Junior Reid

To date, Jamaican-born singer Junior Reid, a devout Rastafarian regarded by many as a messenger from Jah, is best known for the hit singles Foreign Mind, One Blood, Boom Shak-a-Lak and Listen to the Voices. He also served as the lead singer for the Grammy Award-winning Reggae group Black Uhuru.

Born on the 6th of June, Delroy "Junior" Reid grew up in the Waterhouse district of West Kingston. Junior began his career at an early age, gaining his initial inspiration from a tough upbringing. He recorded his first single Know Myself at age fourteen for the late singer Hugh Mundell, released in the U.K. on the Greensleeves label. He then went on to form his own band, The Voice of Progress, and after a local hit with Minibus Driver the groups success was established with the album of the same name.

At the age of eighteen, Junior was asked to join Black Uhuru as lead singer. The group completed their transformation to international status while he was a member, nominated twice for a Grammy Award in the Reggae category.

After many changes in the music business and an agreed separation among the members of Black Uhuru, Junior returned to the solo arena and started his own production company, J.R. Productions.

Once again a solo artist, he recorded a number of songs for J.R. Productions and Sugar Minott's Youth Promotion label, enjoying considerable popularity with tracks such as Human Nature, A-1 Lover, Uplifting and Proud Statement. 1988 saw the release of Junior's first solo album, One Blood. The One Blood single was remixed by Paul "Trouble" Anderson and released worldwide on Big Life/Mercury Records. That track and Long Road received nominations for the prestigious Caribbean Music Awards and the Jamaica Music Industry Awards. He won awards for Best Album, Best Single, Best Song and Most Conscious Lyrics at the Jamaica Music Industry Awards. The follow-up to One Blood was the album Visa, which was distributed by the Greensleeves and Ras labels in addition to his J.R. Productions label.

During his music career Junior Reid has performed around the globe from Bermuda to Japan. He has proven to be a durable and popular entertainer on the world stage. In 1993, after a winning performance in Jamaica at the Montego Bay Superfest he toured Europe alongside Sugar Minott, the 809 Band, and Dub poet Mutabaruka. Junior was also featured in the biggest one-night show in Jamaica, the Sting, from 1996 to 98. Following exceptional performances at Sting and other shows he was offered a starring role in the Jamaican film Klash, produced by Billy Parker.

In 1997 Junior produced the album True World Order. He performed on the True World Order Tour in the United States and United Kingdom. Currently based in the San Francisco, California, the Reggae Angels have been touring the last decade in the U.S., Hawaii, Canada and South America. They are well loved and respected. Theyve taken the message to many different places. For his Reggae Angels unit, Fenton has produced Guard the Honor, Jealousy, Truth and Conviction, Spirit, Signs and Wonders, Which Road Will You Choose, Live Positive, Come To Jah, Save Our Souls, A Heart With Love, Balance and Make Blessings. Augustus Pablo is featured playing melodica and synthesizer on the earlier works, adding his melodious far eastern sound. The early mixing was done in Jamaica with some of the top engineers including Sylvan Morris, David Rowe, Soljie, Dr. Marshall and Hugh Palmer. Scientist mixed the next four CDs in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area. Balance and Make Blessings were mixed at Lion and Fox recording studios, in Alexandria, Virginia by Jim Fox. The Reggae Angels have one of the most prolific catalogues of any American based reggae band, including 13 CDs and numerous dubs.

The Congos Reunion N American Tour Summer 2006 With Everton Blender and Tasha T

The Origonal Congo’s and Everton Blender will be touring Europe late April to mid-May, and then doing the US until late June, and then Europe again until early July when they return to the US to cover the remaining part of North America. The Congos continue their legacy supporting their new Explorer Recordings release - Cock Mouth Kill Cock - on which they are re- united with the origonal Congos vocal trio- Cedric Myton, Watty Barnett and Roydell “Shanty Roy” Johnson. Fans are in for a special treat seeing in the flesh the origonal vocal trio who voiced Heart of the Congos, the legendary reggae masterpiece recorded thirty years ago. In Europe, the re-release of Heart of the Congos sold over 300,000 units. The Congos are some of the living legends in the history of roots reggae music with their conscious lyrics and unique vocal sound.

Everton Blender is touring to support his new release- My Time, also on Explorer recordings. He is touring with two female vocalists on background vocals including his daughter, Iesha Blender, who opens her father’s set with some strong original songs of her own. Several of Blender’s hits, such as “Lift Up your Head,” “Ghetto People Song” and “Family Man” have risen to worldwide anthem status helping to give people hope in all walks of life - especially the poor and needy. Giving to the poor in spirit is a key to paradise. Blender is an exceptional, no- compromise lyricist who lives the part he writes about. When Blender performs, one quickly recognizes that his works are from the heart. His message is one of commitment to Godly principles and good living amongst people. Biography: Congos
The Congos came together in 1977 to record Heart of the Congos with Lee “Scratch” Perry. The vocalists on this project included Cedric Myton, Roydel “Ashanti” Johnson and Wadi Burnett. They are known as Cedric, Watty and Shanty. The Congos made their name with this monumental recording, which was released in 1977. Reggae historian Steve Barrow, one of the people behind the exquisite reissue of this long-thought-lost record, considers it as good as seminal reggae recordings such as Bob Marley and the Wailers' Natty Dread, Burning Spear's Marcus Garvey, and the Mighty Diamonds' Right Time. This is not an exaggeration. Myton, Burnett and Johnson, working with Lee Perry at his Black Ark Studios in Kingston created a masterpiece, one of (if not the) finest production job of Perry's long and prolific career.

Their new CD, “Cock Mouth Kill Cock” releasing worldwide on Explorer Recordings March 2006, brings together the original voices of the Congo’s that blended together to make their masterpiece Heart of the Congos, in 1977. The songs on this new CD use original recording of rhythms of the 60’s and 70’s era, straight from the archives of Hit producer Bunny “Striker” Lee. This project features the reunion of all of the original members of The Congos - Cedric, Watty and Shanty. Man proposes and God disposes. In this case, it’s great to see the reunion of an exceptional vocal trio that has made history.

Biography: Everton Blender
One of the few Jamaican singers to truly bridge the gap between the roots and dancehall reggae styles is Everton "Blender." When reggae fans hear the opening notes of "Lift Up Your Head," "Ghetto People Song" or "Blend Dem," they instantly recognize these songs as major cultural anthems of our time. The large number of hits Everton has accrued is most impressive.

Everton Dennis Williams was born in the parish of Clarendon, Jamaica, but grew up in Kingston 13 on Maxfield Avenue. He worked as a painter, construction worker and decorator, but he realized that the strong chemicals he was working with were not good for his voice or his health in general. With divine help and direction, he decided to leave his job to pursue a singing career.

In 2001, Blender released Visionary (HB 254), consisting of his trademark conscious commitment over sizzling roots and dancehall self-productions. With guest appearances by Beenie Man, Anthony B, Tony Rebel, and Marcia Griffiths, along with Everton's own strong performance, the album garnered favorable reviews throughout the music press. 2001 and 2002 also marked excellent touring years for Blender, in which he headlined several major reggae events.

King Man (HB 258), released in 2002, represents another installment in Blender's legacy of excellent reggae music. In 2005 Blender did a two-month North American tour with America’s Reggae Angels and July 2005 marks the release of My Time, his latest album on Explorer Records. It’s a strong album from beginning to end. Don’t miss him when he passes through your area.

After a successful month-long tour April and May of 2005, Junior Reid and the Reggae Angels had a top performance at Reggae on the River August 2005, and Headlined The Dreadstock Festival in Vallejo CA, and also headlined the stadium Rocktober festivals on four of the Hawaii Islands. Now, a year later they embark on the road again to do a tour of festivals and club dates.

Junior Reid has a new CD called "Clean Up Your Heart", soon to be released. He has recently toured Japan, South America, and the US east and west coasts. Several of Reid's hits such as "One Blood", "Mashing Up the Earth" and "Fit You Haffi Fit" have risen to anthem status. Junior Reid first won the hearts of people around the world as the lead vocalist for Black Uhuru. He has matured and gained strength as an artist performing internationally as well as producing other artists in his One Blood recording studio in Kingston, Jamaica. Junior Reid is a top festival performer with athletic showmanship and melodic phrasing. His message inspires people from all walks of life and he is a mentor to many Rasta enthusiasts. Junior is truly a man of the people always in demand. On the most recent American tour, the shows were consistently well attended.

Within the last couple years, the Reggae Angels completed a 50-city tour with Andrew Tosh (son of Reggae icon Peter Tosh), a 21- city tour with Junior Reid, a 9-city tour with the Abyssinians, a 9-week tour covering North America and Canada co-billed with Everton Blender, and another month-long tour with Junior Reid. After working the festival circuit, they did their fourth trip to Hawaii within a year where they co-billed with and backed Frankie Paul, who now resides in Gambia, Africa. It's been a hard, busy schedule. They have toured consistently since the mid-90's, bringing their spiritually uplifting message to the people. They are well loved. Biography: Junior Reid

To date, Jamaican-born singer Junior Reid, a devout Rastafarian regarded by many as a messenger from Jah, is best known for the hit singles 'Foreign Mind', 'One Blood', 'Boom Shak-a-Lak' and 'Listen to the Voices'. He also served as the lead singer for the Grammy Award-winning Reggae group Black Uhuru.

Born on the 6th of June, Delroy "Junior" Reid grew up in the Waterhouse
district of West Kingston. Junior began his career at an early age, gaining his initial inspiration from a tough upbringing. He recorded his first single 'Know Myself' at age fourteen for the late singer Hugh Mundell, released in the U.K. on the Greensleeves label. He then went on to form his own band, The Voice of Progress, and after a local hit with 'Minibus Driver' the group's success was established with the album of the same name.

At the age of eighteen, Junior was asked to join Black Uhuru as lead singer. The group completed their transformation to international status while he was a member, nominated twice for a Grammy Award in the Reggae category.

After many changes in the music business and an agreed separation among the members of Black Uhuru, Junior returned to the solo arena and started his own production company, J.R. Productions.

Once again a solo artist, he recorded a number of songs for J.R. Productions and Sugar Minott's Youth Promotion label, enjoying considerable popularity with tracks such as 'Human Nature', 'A-1 Lover, 'Uplifting' and 'Proud Statement'.

1988 saw the release of Junior's first solo album, One Blood. The 'One Blood' single was remixed by Paul "Trouble" Anderson and released worldwide on Big Life/Mercury Records. That track and 'Long Road' received nominations for the prestigious Caribbean Music Awards and the Jamaica Music Industry Awards. He won awards for Best Album, Best Single, Best Song and Most Conscious Lyrics at the Jamaica Music Industry Awards. The follow-up to One Blood was the album Visa, which was distributed by the Greensleeves and Ras labels in addition to his J.R. Productions label.

First of all ive got to mention and Give Respect to Wayne Marshall and the supreme track "The Right Herb". I was pleasantly surprised to hear the night nurse riddim accompanying Marshalls lyrics.

Respect!!

Then there's Left Side & Esco - "Tuck in u Belly", a huge tune right now and the riddims used on the album again by Buju Banton on the track "Me Too Bad".
I cant get enough of Buju and his material, such a distinguished, truly talented man who i've worshipped for over 10 years and rightly so deserves Copious ammounts of love in this review.

He appears again on this album along side Anthony Cruz on the Track "Too Bloody", Sweet, Sweet tune which everybody should have in there collection.

I'm gonna stop there and leave the rest of the album as a surprise...

Over all, the album is consistant, with some tough tunes and well respected artists. Enjoy !!

First of all I want to say, that I am really and truly Honoured to be writing this review.

Give thanks to di Father high above and to those in Zion whom I Love! Selah.

I man first record Reggae wise ,whas the 12” inch version of No Woman No Cry (Live version 1975 Island Records) so much feelin set tears inna mi eye’s.(Thanx Mom fi buying it fi I) cause it really changed my life. And when in the same year the album Live came out,well that one really hooked I up foriva! Recorded at the lyceum on the 18th july 1975 in London. Di Live recording been done by Rolling Stones Mobile. Well Bredda Bob stone went on rolling Jah Know! With albums like: Exodus (1977), Babylon By Bus (1978), Kaya (1978), Rastaman Vibration (1978), Survival (1979), Uprising (1980) and so many more, he conquered the world and paved the way for so many artist now a day’s to spread Jah Message all over di world.

Yeah mon, Bredda Bob put Reggae music, Rastafarians an Jamaica pon di map! Firm!

Still a great inspirator to many many artists,in fact ‘all’ People. A great artist to many a prophet to a whole heap a Bredren an Sistren, including Iself. Really an Truly Love n Raspec mi Bredda Bob! An I man so happy with this new album called,…Africa Unite-The singles Collection, released on November 8 this year 2005. An a few new surprising tracks, SLOGANS, mi never hear it before an it Wicked just like the last track on dis ya album. A remix version of Get Up Stand Up ,called Stand Up Jamrock done by Ashley Reedle. WICKED!

Bredda Bob lives, him cyaan dead for Rasta never die. Him a live on thrue him music an inna di Hearts of I an I. For I an I is Jah Children whom a praise I Most High, Rastafariii! Dem first two tune really set yuh inna di mood for some T.L.C. by candlelight. Maxi Priest as sweet as honey like always. Third tune a go tek yuh Skankin. And so it goes on on dis ya album that is o so sweet, that it will probebly give yuh honeysweet fingers when yuh buy it! But that's dis man music for yuh….SWEET.

Sight up di man once pon di Summerjam Festival inna Germany where he performed along with other artists like Burning Spear an Culture , in front of 50 to 60,000 people (one mountain full a people o yes it was really pon a mountain!) and he gave them what they came for. I Saw all a dem lovers cling together an felt di Love on di mountain iya. (Great feelin…Lovin Vibes!!!)

Bought I first album by dis man in 1987 called Maxi Priest,that is produced by Willie Lindo and Sly & Robbie. With tunes like, Goodbye To Love Again, Same Old Story, Marcus, Some Guys Have All The Luck and of course WILD WORLD is also on dis ya album! And I must must be true…I like dis ya version better! Along whith tunes like,…Believe in Love, Tender Touch, Fields, Sweat A ’Go Buss (an wi all know wa dat mean), Like I do,Wildfire a.o.,…dis ya one a definitely worth checking, Mi tell yuh!

Yuh know di place fi get it, so I man advice…go get deh!

And I must say, ...known them for a long long time an checked them a couple a times when they came forward to Holland, and even met them ones, the first gig they did in Holland without Carrot. That was also the last time mi sight them up because of all kind of expirimental vibes I kinda liked it,but i still feld like,..so so. But now,....I Feel like the love just grow an grow again. Rastafari what a wonderfull an upfull album, ...Third World Reborn!

Out of many, we are one people, some words in the title tune of this album , some tunes ft. other reggae artists like Beres Hammond and Wayne Marshall . An check out the tune Fade Away outta di movie
