REALITY TIME #79 with PATO BANTON this Sunday on Bigupradio.com
PATO BANTON
"Never Give In: 20th Anniversary Edition"
PATO BANTON "Never Give In: 20th Anniversary Edition"
About PATO BANTON:
In the Mid 1980’s a young and hungry Pato Banton was making noise in the UK and an integral part in establishing a vital Reggae culture in the European nation. After rehearsals and shows around the UK and Europe and a classic Mad Professor collaboration already under his belt, Pato went on to record his second album “Never Give In!” It is this record that remains Pato’s best selling record to date and the most celebrated by the numerous American musicians who have come to proclaim him among their greatest influences. The Beastie Boys famously sampled the lyric “I do not sniff the coke I only smoke sensimilla” on their Paul’s Boutique record. And, Queen Latifah’s biggest hit “U.N.I.T.Y.” was a direct interpolation of Pato’s original lyrics as well. Everyone from Sublime to Jack Johnson to Damian Marley to countless others continue to hold Pato and his influence in the highest of regard.

Tony Matterhorn
"Dutty Wine"
Wayne Wonder - Again
About TONY MATTERHORN:
His feisty attitude has kept him at or near the top of the sound system game for many years. Tony Matterhorn has now found new territory as a dancehall deejay with a handful of hits pounding the dancehall both locally and overseas.
Dubbed 'Mr. Fully Loaded' for his intense battles at the annual beach event, Matterhorn has captured a new fan base with the globe-trotting Dutty Wine single which spent 13 weeks at number one on the RETV Dancehall Chart, and eleven weeks at the top of the UK's BBC 1Xtra Dancehall chart. Dutty Wine's success hasn't been confined to the dancehall charts. The song last week peaked at number 35 on Billboard's R&B Hip Hop Singles & Tracks chart in the US. A follow-up single, Goodas Fi Dem from producer Mark Pinnock's Gully Slime rhythm on the Natural Bridge label, has taken over the number one spot on the charts.

ALLSPICE REGGAE #49 hosted by DJ COMMON SENSI
with the soca sensation KEVIN LYTTLE
The soca sensation KEVIN LYTTLE stops by the Groove Unlimited studios to speak to DJ Common Sensi and the fans about his current US tour, latest releases and what's to come. Kevin Lyttle has been around the world and back with his super smash hit "Turn Me On" but he's got a lot more hits you may not have heard. Don't miss the very special appearance this Friday on the AllSpice Reggae Show #49 hosted by the Bay Area's finest dancehall dj Common Sensi. The AllSpice Reggae shows airs every Friday on the Bigupradio.com Slamming Dancehall station.
About KEVIN LYTTLE:
Kevin was first inspired by music as a 7-year-old, sitting on his mother's shoulders watching local Calypsonians competing for the title of Road March King in the yearly St. Vincent Carnival. At the same time, he cites the North American awards shows and televised performances-- Michael Jackson's moonwalk and "Billie Jean" in particular--that transfixed an entire generation of R&B and rap artists. "I've been influenced by all genres of music," says Lyttle. "I have a love for every form of art." While working a variety of day jobs, Lyttle cut his first professional record without success. Nonetheless, encouraged by his workmates, in 2001 he brought two songs to local producer Adrian Bailey, one of which was "Turn Me On." The session itself was deceptively easy. "I was done in two takes, less than an hour," says Kevin. "No one had heard me sing in this range; on St. Vincent, some people thought it was Beres Hammond doing soca. That was really flattering."
